유미루는 보이지 않거나 사라지거나 주변부로 밀려난 것들이 어떻게 다시 감각될 수 있는지를 탐구하는 리서치 기반의 미디어 아티스트다.

그의 작업은 공식적인 역사 서술이 포착하지 못하는 층위들에서 출발한다. 해안 지형의 풍경과 지질학적 흔적, 위기종 식물의 생태, 도시 아 래 묻힌 노동의 기억과 사회적 기억의 잔여들, 그리고 역사적 사건의 주변부에 놓인 이들의 구술. 이것들은 비가시적이지만 분명히 작동하고 있는 것들이다. 유미루는 이 층위들을 기록하고 수집하는 리서치에서 작업을 시작한다.

수집된 재료들은 영상, 사진, 게임 엔진, VR, 인터랙티브 미디어 등의 매체를 통해 재조직된다. 이때 중요한 것은 고정된 서사의 재현이 아 니라, 감각적 단위들의 비선형적 배열과 조합이다. 기억은 타임라인을 따라 순차적으로 전달되지 않는다. 그것은 파편적이고 무작위적이며, 언어보다 감각의 형태로 이동한다. 유미루의 작업은 이 기억의 존재 방식을 형식 자체로 실현하려 한다.

그가 만드는 것은 정보를 전달하는 장치가 아니라, 관람객이 보이지 않는 것들과 직접 조우하는 장이다. 환경이나 기억을 하나의 고정된 서 사로 제시하기보다, 그것들이 다시 감각되고 새롭게 구성될 수 있는 조건을 설계한다. 관람객은 작품 안에서 스스로 발견하고 감각하며, 보 이지 않던 것들과 직접 조우한다.

Miru Yoo is a research-based media artist exploring how things that are invisible, disappearing, or pushed to the margins might become sensible again.

His work begins in the layers that official historical narratives fail to capture: the geological traces of coastal terrain, the ecology of endangered plant species, the buried memory of labor beneath cities, the social residues of forgotten events, and the oral testimonies of those left at the periphery of history. These are things that operate with certainty, yet remain unseen. Yoo begins each work by researching and collecting from within these layers.

The collected materials are reorganized through media such as video, photography, game engines, VR, and interactive media. What matters is not the reproduction of a fixed narrative, but the non-linear arrangement and combination of sensory units. Memory does not travel sequentially along a timeline. It is fragmentary and aleatory, moving in the form of sensation rather than language. Yoo's work seeks to realize this mode of memory's existence as form itself.

What he constructs is not a device for transmitting information, but a field in which the viewer encounters invisible things directly. Rather than presenting environments or memories as a single fixed narrative, he designs the conditions through which they might be sensed again and newly composed. Within the work, the viewer discovers, perceives, and comes face to face with what had not been visible before.
