일상이 멈춰버린 코로나 시대, 예정되어 있던 모든 공연이 취소된 무용수와의 인터뷰를 기반으로 작업한 영상이다. 무대에 오르는 것이 당연한 일상이었던 무용수는 관객들과 직접 마주하는 모든 무대가 취소된 뒤 연습실에서 마스크를 쓰고 연습하는 것이 전부가 되었다. 오프라인과 온라인의 중대 변곡점이 되어버린 코로나 시대, 무용수는 본인의 춤이 온라인 속의 모습으로만 남을까봐 모든 것이 혼란스럽다.
무용수는 만약 이대로 관객들과 눈을 맞추며 춤을 출 수 없게 되면, 관객과 호흡하는 무대가 사라진다면 본인이 춤을 추면서 ‘살아있다는 것을 느낄 수 있을까’에 대한 질문에 대해 생각한다.
This video work is based on an interview with a dancer whose scheduled performances were all canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic—a time when daily life came to a halt. For the dancer, taking the stage had once been a natural part of everyday life. But after all in-person performances were suspended, rehearsing alone in a studio with a mask became her only remaining routine.
As the pandemic marked a profound turning point between the offline and online worlds, the dancer was overwhelmed by the fear that her dance might be remembered only as a virtual image. She was left questioning everything.
She began to ask herself:
“If I can no longer meet the audience's eyes while dancing—
If the stage that allows me to breathe with the audience disappears—
Will I still be able to feel that I’m truly alive while I dance?”
